CCAC organized a unique and productive day in London, UK early in March to brainstorm and continue planning for a new exciting international media campaign to raise awareness about global needs for inclusion of quality captioning, of all sorts, and raise the level of advocacy for this with members, new colleagues, all interested. The founder and leader of the CCAC, Lauren Storck, deafened for about 12 years, decided it was a good time for a new campaign, using a short vibrant film. Thanks to hosting from STAGETEXT, 14 people from five countries gathered together on a Sunday for a fast-paced working meeting in the morning, and then visited a captioned performance at The National Theater in the afternoon. Planning had been done for weeks, and collaboration continues via e-mail. A decision was made by those present, providers and consumers together, to harness our volunteer energies and aim to create the FILM for a debut at an international conference this June. Several other colleagues have been kept informed of the meeting and the goals, and have been invited to work with the CCAC. We need your submissions now! All video segments, using the CCAC script, are due to us before the end of April. To get started, go to http://ccacaptioning.org/
We also invite funding from more sponsors, to cover professional editing of the FILM, related costs of the campaign, and to continue captioning advocacy via the CCAC for months to come. We hope this is the first of several new projects, including more films, to allow milions of us who need captioning inclusion to be more visible. CCAC says “Don’t leave us out!”
